In a heartwarming initiative, young Olivia Grannell from Winsford is all set to undertake the challenging hiking of Snowdon, also known as Yr Wyddfa, for a truly noble cause. Her mission is to raise funds for ARC Animals, an organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned and neglected pets from Macedonia.

The inspiration for this noble endeavor stems from Olivia’s adoption of two pups, Daisy and Asana, from the shelter. At just six years old, the Darnhall Primary School pupil has displayed a level of compassion and empathy that has left her family in awe.

Her mother, Laura, proudly shared Olivia’s school report, which commended her for her kindness and her inclination to look after her peers. Laura, like any parent, values these qualities as much as academic achievements, if not more.

Luckily, her family, no strangers to mountain hiking, wholeheartedly supported her. Olivia’s efforts have resonated with many, resulting in nearly £1,000 raised for ARC Animals.

Olivia’s affinity for animals goes far beyond words. She has made the conscientious decision to avoid consuming meat, a testament to her profound love for our four-legged companions. The Grannell family had recently experienced the loss of their beloved dog, Maizie, to heart failure in June 2022.

A painful loss

Laura, who owns Stagecoach Performing Arts Nantwich, couldn’t have foreseen that they would open their hearts and home to new canine members. The pain of losing Maizie was profound, but fate had other plans.

One day, while scrolling through Facebook, Laura came across an image of a cream-colored dog with striking blue eyes. There was something in that picture that touched her deeply, prompting her to inquire further. ARC Animals, the rescue organization, shed light on the heartbreaking realities faced by animals in Macedonia. The dog that had captured Laura’s heart arrived in a pitiable state, emaciated and frail. Despite the initial hardships, this pup found a loving home with the Grannell family.

Olivia’s compassion, however, didn’t stop at adopting these dogs. Laura was recounting the trials these canines had endured when Olivia proposed a daring idea. It is climbing Snowdon to support the shelter. ARC Animals had posted a plea for food and winter bedding, and Olivia was resolute in her determination to make a difference.

The remarkable part of Olivia’s story is that her charitable aspirations don’t end there. She’s expressed a heartfelt wish to help the homeless this Christmas, a wish that’s hard for her family to turn down given her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Olivia’s story serves as a testament to the enduring power of kindness and empathy, even in the youngest of hearts.
