Small gestures can have a lasting impact. Recently, the LA Rams football team collaborated with the organization Shoes That Fit to provide shoes to more than 500 students from 99th Street Elementary School in Watt. This joint effort demonstrates the power of community and generosity in making a difference.
They teamed up for ‘Giving Tuesday’ and gifted the students brand new athletic shoes with a combination of comfort and style. Their goal was to inspire the students to step outside, be creative, and boost their confidence. It was an entire carnival with team players, the cheerleading team distributing the shoes, and the team mascot ‘Rampage,’ also graced the occasion. The players present even participated in athletic drills like kicking, tackling, and jumping with the children. They gave the students tremendous joy and a wonderful opportunity to excel.

Shoes That Fit is a charitable organization that aims to bridge the gap of confidence, dignity, and joy poverty-stricken children experience. They say, ‘a new pair of shoes can be a life-changing event for a child.‘The organization aims to actively work with popular shoe brands and positively impact students’ lives.
Dressed in a new dash of confidence and style, the students at 99th Street Elementary School could not contain their excitement. One student, Bella Hernandez said, “There’s a lot of shoes that they’re bringing for all the kids and the kids are happy that they got shoes.” “I’m excited because I can run faster,” said student Ean Vallejos.

Speaking to the media, LAUSD Superintendent Albert Carvalho highlighted how 80% of the kids in the region live in poverty. They are always looking for partners to collaborate with, and Shoes That Fit is one of them. The organization can aid in some form and reignite the fire of desire in several children.
An eye on the bigger picture
LA Rams offensive linesman Steve Avila spoke to the media on the day of the event and expressed his excitement for the whole operation. “It’s always nice getting a new pair of shoes. I remember being a kid. I used to always think they made me jump higher and run faster. They also look good so we’re super happy about that.”

The LA Rams played the Arizona Cardinals and won the game by comfortable margin of 14-37. Their assignment in a couple of days is against the Cleveland Browns at their home ground, the SoFi stadium. They are placed third on the NFC West table standings as of now.
“Our job is to help improve children’s self-esteem. And when they look good and can fit in with their peers in their brand new Nikes and Adidas, On Running, Reeboks and Pumas,” Newell-Hall said. “We’re definitely going to make sure they can fit in, that they have everything they need.” said the chief strategy officer of Shoes That Fit.

LA Rams and Shoes That Fit has extended a helping hand, where the focus is not merely on material needs. They are giving the children a symbol of empowerment. They believe it will act as a catalyst for children to embrace outdoor activities, embrace the complexities of them, and understand their worth.
