20-year-old Italian’s determination drives him to cycle for 930 miles and raise $4300

In any sport, determination is key. It helps you break past barriers that you never even imagined you could. The hardest thing about accomplishing your goals is the discipline it takes to keep believing and working towards those goals. There have been plenty of truly inspirational stories of people who rose above the odds to grab their opportunities and make their dreams are reality. From Cristiano Ronaldo to Conor McGregor, sports are filled with incredible moments where the underdogs emerge victorious. A similar underdog story has been that of?20-year-old Claudio Barchiesi.

The up-and-comer went on a journey from his hometown Barzano, Italy to his grandparents’ home in Barrow village in England, travelling around 1,500 km. While he had initially set out to raise a euro for every kilometer he traveled, he eventually ended up raising 4,000 euros for cancer research.

Not through Cycling, but Determination

Surprisingly, Barchiesi isn’t very big on cycling. In fact, he had only cycled about 5 kilometers a day in the lead-up to his expedition. However, as mentioned earlier, determination can take you to inhuman lengths to achieve your goals. It took months for Barchiesi to complete his mission. However, he learned many lessons along the way as he traversed cities, states, and countries to reach his destination.

??I tried to do 90 km a day so I got half a day to visit the place as well. It’s incredible how after 90km, not only do the places change so much, but also the people and the languages spoken,”?Barchiesi said. The 20-year-old also documented his entire journey on Instagram on a daily basis, highlighting milestones along the way. Barchiesi’s family was overwhelmed with emotion and support for Claudio on his mission to raise funds.

Barchiesi’s grandmother Pat Stoten said, “I’ve never been prouder of anything in my whole life.”?However, Claudio believes he made it through simply because of the love and support of his family and those who followed his journey.

An Inspiration to a Generation

Barchiesi’s journey is an inspiration to all young people. His determination sets the perfect example for the generation, teaching them that determination and perseverance will always prevail. His social media documents his journey, with posts documenting his wins and losses along the way. Across the documentation of his journey, his determination to raise funds for the cause remained unwavering.

?I smashed my initial target and I never thought I’d be able to have the help and support of so many people,” the Italian said. His trip ended at his grandparents’ house, where he was greeted with balloons, banners, and congratulations. Through hard work and humility, Claudio Barchiesi definitely got his happy ending.
