The final week of training for Uno-X Pro cyclists was nothing short of a roller coaster. The Norwegian members of the team, Anders Halland Johannessen and Jonas Iversby Hvideberg had an amazing practice session on the tracks and reaped the benefits of the ‘bonding session’. However, things took a worrisome turn after they left the training grounds.

After enjoying a fruitful time on the tracks, both of them left the premises satisfied but not at 100%. Both cyclists felt uneasy throughout the day and sent a message to the team doctor. Investigations revealed that they were suffering symptoms from long exposure to the deadly gas, carbon monoxide. Let’s dive in and dissect what exactly unfolded during and after practice for the two cyclists.

A visit to the karting track at Copenhagen is supposed to be an fun-filled and exciting affair. Before walking into the ground, they must’ve had great expectations from the session but none of them could have possibly anticipated the ordeal that was to follow. It was the last session of 2023 and Hvideberg’ first with Uno-X-Pro. He was part of Team DSM but has now officially joined Uno-X-Pro, as of 2024.

Driving around in karts is something both cyclists claimed to thoroughly enjoy. As time went on and they settled into a rhythm, both of them kept circling around the track, looking to better their previous lap times.

“Going on karts is something I really enjoy, I was in the racetrack room for almost four hours and never went out to take a breath of air. Jonas and I saw that our [lap] times were getting better, we continued to drive and we went over the allotted time.” said Johannessen to the media.

It was like giving a child candy and dropping him of at a fun park. The duo did not want to leave the track and spent a considerable amount of time in the facility, unaware of the exposure to carbon monoxide the whole time.

It all started with uneasiness and a massive headache and ended with both cyclists getting transferred to the national hospital in Copenhagen. They were given oxygen throughout the night but the prolonged exposure forced their doctors to transfer them to a hospital. They were given a period of seven days for full recovery but managed to get back on their feet sooner. In the list of bizarre incidents, it looks like we have the very first one added to a list that promises to be nothing but massive.
