You can generally sense when a country is bound for greatness with a particular sport. There is a sense of impending greatness around the country, its athletes, and the overall atmosphere around the sport. The feeling is comparable to when a country enters World Cup tournaments as the favorite. Such a feeling also exists around the sport of cycling in Turkey currently.
The country is on the verge of something historic this year with its 58th Presidential Cycling Tour. At the helm of it all is Emin Müftüoğlu, the president of the Turkish Cycling Federation. He presented the tour as a “showcase of the struggles faced by young and experienced athletes alike.” He also tried hard to contain his excitement about the presence of Mark Cavendish and Jasper Philipsen – two of the world’s top cyclists today.
