Douglas Concha is a cyclist like no other. While most cyclists ride for leisure, Concha has a bigger goal in mind – to break a world record and bring aid to those in need. His ambitious mission involves covering 18,000 miles, crossing 6 different continents, and doing it all within 9 months.

This is his third charity cycle tour, and he’s determined to raise funds for the renowned Doctors Without Borders. But Concha’s journey took a heartbreaking turn when he stopped at Bicycle Sports in Beaumont to replace a tire. Fate had other plans for him, as a truck struck him from behind and run over shortly after getting back on the road.

A routine tire stop turned into a dangerously close shave for Concha. Concha emerged from the harrowing ordeal with a battered body, but with an unbreakable spirit. The pain lingers, but it only fuels his determination to push forward. He sees his survival as a blessing, a miraculous second chance to continue his philanthropic mission.

The all-too-familiar news of cyclists being involved in accidents is a sobering reality, and Concha’s story is testament to the dangers they face on the road. Yet, even after the devastatingly close call, Concha remains undeterred in his pursuit.

“When I got to the hospital even the doctor was like yeah you could be paralyzed or dead right now. I feel terrible physically right now, but it also seems like a blessing that I am still here,” he said.

To him, shattering the Guinness World Record goes beyond individual triumph; it serves as a powerful tool to spark recognition and aid for a cause that holds great significance to him.
