In a display of solidarity and support from the community, 51 cyclists completed their fifteen-day journey around the country of Taiwan, in a bid to raise money for those in need. The group set out on their journey on December 23 last year from the Presidential Office Building, and it all culminated on January 6. What made the yearly event a tad extra special this year was the record amount of money they raised.
The group of 51 cyclists set out on a long and arduous journey to raise money for those in distress. For them to raise NT$18 million (US$ 581,000) is nothing short of remarkable. It is the highest they have ever received since their inception over 20 years ago. The community and citizens of Taiwan stepped up and how!
Cyclists come together for a cause

Set up in the year 2002, the organizers came up with a unique idea in order to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of the needy. The group of cyclists, led by the one of the organizing bodies Christian Relief Association (CCRA) set up the marquee event in order to raise awareness and money for the families suffering from the consequences of inflation and unforeseen crises.
They set out for their long trip from Ketagalan Boulevard and returned to the capital of the country at the Songshan Railway Station. People flocked to the railway station in large numbers and the cyclists returned to an enormous round of applause, cheer, and jubilation.
The resounding welcome of the cyclists by the public was a sign of great respect and also showed that the community’s desire to make a positive impact.
The CCRA highlighted that unpredictable economic or market forces force several families into dire financial troubles. Events such as rising inflation and unemployment can destabilize households completely, and it is during such times that the funds raised through the event come in handy for the families.

The unique point of proposition that they possess is the “1919 service centers”, which were born at the same time as their idea of the event was. Since then, these service centers have managed to provide assistance to over 16000 families. After the record-breaking collection of NT18$ million, the centers have earmarked NT$ 24,000 for each registered family.
This generous funds offering will go a long way into impacting the lives of the needy. It will act as a beacon of hope and ray of sunshine for those living in dark times.
