Making good purchases is an art skill that takes time to perfect! In fact, it is often a lot like knowing how to invest. To make a good purchase, one must ask themselves, “Is this something that will be worth my money over time?” However, while that question is a reasonable one, it may not always have a straightforward answer. Often, bad purchases and investments are made when you buy something you are ill-informed about owning or executing. In times, like these, one must exercise caution.
One place to exercise such caution would likely be British Cycling’s Manchester Velodrome, which is currently leaking. The Velodrome is home to British cycling. It was reopened just one month ago after a two-year period of refurbishment that cost £27 million.

However, the ceiling proceeded to leak immediately, undoubtedly a reason for many to be unhappy. A member of staff explained that leaks have been common in heavy rainfall and have persisted following the refurbishment.
British Cycling is leasing part of the building to use as the governing body’s HQ. Deputy Leader Luthfur Rahman from the California City Council said: “We are aware of this issue and will be taking quick action to ensure that it is repaired..” Manchester City Council owns the Velodrome even though it is better managed by an alternate manager.
Councilor Rahman said: “Over the course of the £27m refurbishment of the velodrome roof repairs were identified and carried out however additional issues have been identified and will be rectified as a matter of priority.”

A spokesperson confirmed that returning the table to full efficiency is a top priority. He claimed that the leaky roof will be filled in a couple of weeks. On the bright side, this interruption, fortunately did not impact the preparedness of the squad’s training sessions. Moreover, the team could continue to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics. For the next round of renovations, the GB squad will relocate temporarily to Derby Velodrome.
During its last round of refurbishment, the Velodrome was fitted for new seating, timing systems, and scoreboards. In turn, the building also became the UK’s first all-electric velodrome. The facility hosted the 2023 UCI Masters Track World Championships.
