In a recent incident, a youngster who was just 15 lost his life after his bicycle collided with a truck. The deceased was a Frisco ISD student, Landon Bourque. Parents informed NBC 5 that Bourque was a member of the Heritage Coyotes football team and that many of them were dropping off their children at the school for practice when the crash occurred. Bourque’s presence was also noted on the football team’s roster on MaxPreps.

Sabrina Elrod, visibly shaken, shared, “When we drove by, he saw it was Landon’s bike. It was awful, very awful.” Elrod spoke fondly of Bourque, recalling his kindness as he welcomed her son Cohen into the community when they first arrived.

Just the previous day, the boys had eagerly explored class options at Heritage, brimming with anticipation of the new year. As the first school day concluded, their reflections turned to what they would dearly miss. Nolan Swyres, a close friend, remembered Bourque warmly: “He was a great kid, you know a super funny guy. Always trying to be happy, always trying to lighten the mood. He never really brought anyone down. He was just someone I was glad to have around.”

Police officials, dealing with the aftermath, removed a heavily damaged bicycle and a pair of headphones from the intersection. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. The question of potential charges stemming from the tragic incident remains uncertain.

Local drivers who engaged with NBC 5 expressed concern about the dangerous intersection. With two sizable schools nearby, they strongly advocated for increased police presence. This is to encourage cautious driving and reduced speeds through the area.

A devastating demise

A reflective driver, who chose to remain anonymous, articulated a sobering perspective: “You gotta think, that could have been your kid. That could have been your niece, your nephew, that could have been your daughter, your son, a grandson, or whatever. You’ve gotta slow down. You gotta slow down. I know these streets, they don’t have a lot of lights and everything, but there’s no reason [to be] going this fast in residential areas, you know?” An eyewitness shared with NBC 5 that the crash occurred before crossing guards were in place at the middle school, further underscoring the vulnerability of the situation.

District officials promptly informed Heritage High School’s teachers, students, and parents about the tragic incident early Wednesday morning. In response, counselors were dispatched to the Heritage High School campus to provide essential support to students in need. Coinciding with this heartrending incident, Wednesday marked the first day of school for students in Frisco ISD, a somber beginning to the academic year.
