Death can strike you anywhere. A climber has the privilege to watch the beauty of nature. Climbing peaks can always sound very fascinating. However, it is not very safe to do so. The tougher and the more the height increases, the threat to life also increases.
There have been commendable journeys by people who have even conquered 14 peaks. Somewhere, everyone mentions the difficulty and life-altering situations, they come across. In these situations, some get lucky but some don’t. Recently, an award-winning mountaineer lost his life after a tragic fall.
The Death of a Pilot d’Or winning climber

Dimitri Golovchenko, one of the big names in the climbing and mountaineering industry has been met with a tragic fate. During one of his climbs at Gasherbrum IV, located in Pakistan, he suffered a tragic fall. This was reported later by his companion Sergey Nilov.
Nilov rushed to the base camp and informed about this tragic fall. He also confirmed that he went to his companion, confirmed that he was dead, wrapped him, and left for the base camp.
While the search is still in process, the helicopters aim to extract the remains of Golovchenko. The whole incident marks it to be one of the heartbreaking tragedies of the climbing industry.
There have been many such instances where climbers could lose their lives. Nirmal Purja, who conquered 14 peaks in 6 months had a documentary made around him. That also shows the horrors of the deadly peaks.
The Dangers of Climbing Notorious Peaks
There is very little oxygen present at higher altitudes. Everyone carries an oxygen mask and a cylinder with them. If you run out of oxygen then life can go out of you on those high altitudes. It is instant death.

There have been certain disturbing clips where we can see a climber, almost unconscious and helpless in those extremities. Hopefully, Nirmal and his team have everyone on their way and rescued as many people as they can during their climb.
However, not everyone gets lucky to get rescuers. Making decisions to climb those high altitudes should be countered with how precious life is. The mountains are a part of nature and nature can never always be very beautiful. It can sometimes be very cruel as well.

In the end, it is a loss for a family and a very horrifying experience for Sergey Nilov. No doubt, there will be nightmares for him, about the moment he was wrapping a human body and leaving it behind because the terrain won’t let the dead go.
