Science and cheerleading are two very different fields. While both disciplines are unique in their own way, a fusion of both is not something that we hear every day. The entire idea of inspiring women to pursue STEM was incubated in the minds of Samantha Marsillo & Wendy Brown, who were both professional dancers. They wanted to take a stand to prove that women can most certainly excel in both STEM & cheerleading. The Director of Operations at the Outreach for Science Cheerleaders, Marsillo stated, “I’ve seen so many of the science cheerleaders be so successful in their careers because they’re just great, they’re great leaders and they’re great peers to their coworkers.”
The science cheerleaders at the Outreach for Science Cheerleaders usually create magic by combining particle physics and dancing. Over 300 enthusiastic cheerleaders from diverse fields have enrolled in the organization to pursue careers in STEM. These cheerleaders range from college and universities to even the NBA & NFL. While some of them are retired, most of them are active in their respective disciplines.
The organization has been growing rapidly and with that, the expanse of their impact is also increasing. Samantha and Wendy are now focusing on not just women but on kids as well so that they can be guided and nurtured in a proper manner right from the bud.
