For a really long time, dirt bikers and mountain bikers have tried to co-exist in harmony. The binding factor between the two is the desire to possess control and have a say in the preservation of trail access.

However, of late, the two groups have been involved in a number of instances of disagreement with mountain bikers, believing that dirt bikers have now crossed their limits and entered into dangerous territory. The invention and introduction of new electric bikes called Surron, have caused quite the uproar in the community and the boundary lines are now blurred.

Surron riders disregard local limits and trespass

The number of instances of mountain bikers and Surron riders getting into an argument over who has the right to pass on the trails. A mountain biker stopped a group of Surron riders, who were trespassing, and someone uploaded a video of the interaction on YouTube.

The man in the video asked the riders to leave the premises, stating that the rules do not allow for them to be in those territories. The Surron riders, however, showed complete disregard and disrespect to the mountain biker. They labeled him as a “Karen”, a popular term used by netizens for people who create disharmony, especially youngsters.

The clip ended with the group sharing a laugh after passing some disrespectful comments. Even after being told by the biker that dirt bikes were not allowed, they refused to go back, and their demeanor showed no clear signs of remorse.

Local officials need to step in at the right time

Surrons are the new E-dirt bikes in the market and an efficient choice of riding. But the fact is that these electric-powered bikes are not by any means close to a mountain bike. Its powerful throttle puts it straight into the category of motor vehicles and authorities need to take this into consideration.

Biking advocacy groups have long argued that they will respect the boundaries laid down, but Surron riders have other thoughts in mind. They fear that with the positive atmosphere around E-bikes and vehicles, people may re-look at the laws and allow them access to the trails.

The Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority have a task in their hands, to establish a line of control and rules. This is necessary to avoid interactions like what we saw in the video, where Surron riders tend to disrespect bikers and do as they please.
