Indonesia Yet Again Disappoints After U-20 World Cup Incident, the Delays Lead to the Termination of World Beach Games

After the controversial incident of the Under-20 World Cup, the governing power of sports in Indonesia was in question among the people. And yet again, there’s another issue that has surfaced that has let down both the supporters and the Olympic committee. 

Indonesia lost the hosting powers of the Under-20 World Cup which was very tragic for their people and now they have lost the hosting of world beach games too.

Insufficiency and delays leading to the downfall of Indonesia

The delays in funding and retracing of sponsors were presented in front of the Olympic committee which led to canceling the event as it cannot be organized somewhere else in such short notice.

This is a major question in terms of the capability of a nation. Around 1000 athletes from 206 internal committees were supposed to participate in 14 beach and water sports events. The location for world beach games was Bali and the dates were Aug 05-12.

In an official statement, the Olympic Committee wrote, “It is with great surprise and extreme disappointment that ANOC has learnt that the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) has withdrawn from its commitment to host the ANOC World Beach Games and the ANOC General Assembly in August 2023.

With the Games scheduled to take place in one month, the decision at such late notice prevents ANOC from being able to find an alternative host and so there is no option but to cancel this year’s edition of the Games in Bali in August” 

The whole incident and including the previous Under-20 world cup debacle, all in all, would reflect badly on the chances.

“We hope this will be a lesson for the future. If we get to host such an event, we should do our best. You don’t know how hard we worked. Please don’t express your opinion recklessly. We are the ones who suffer the consequences.” Indonesian player, Hokky Caraka said addressing the situation.

There is a lot of doubt about the potential and capability of Indonesia. It would be a big blow to the country if the Olympic committee stops considering them for events. Sports fans from Indonesia and all over the world are furious about the decision.
