VIDEO: Bizarre Scenes on Soccer Field After Match Gets Halted as Toddler Steals Corner Flag

There are plenty of techniques soccer players use to slow down the pace of the game, if not delay the happenings. However, having someone steal the corner flag definitely has to be the first. In a hilarious and cute turn of events,  match was delayed for this exact reason.

The corner flag is crucial to decide the boundaries within the game. The match cannot move ahead without it being stationed in the right place.

Toddler Steals Flag, Runs Away.

The game was intense, in it’s 44th minute. Nearing half-time, when Cork City FC Women were ahead 2-0, a toddler’s curiosity got better of him. After plucking the corner flag from the ground, the cute toddler started walking/running away.

This hilarious incident at the Fermoy Football Club in Cork caught the attention of the internet, as the Cork City FC put out a tweet immediately as it happened. Highlighting the state of the game, the club tweeted, “44′ -Back underway here after brief stoppage… a toddler had run off with the corner flag.”

This cute act was a brief delay in the proceedings, as the toddler provided little to no resistance to hand the flag back over to the officials.

The Group D match went underway after with no other major events taking place, and the game ending in a 2-1, in favor of the home team. The winners were scored by Chloe Atkinson & Kiera Sena.

Polarizing Reactions from Fans

The internet and Twitter world stand divided on the course of events that took place during the group D match. While some fans took it in a light-hearted manner, like the players and officials, the others were enraged at the inadequacy of security provided.

Some fans had tweets with a GIF of Kevin Malone from the Office laughing.

Others joked that this is the exact reason why they don’t take their kids to the soccer games.

There were other sarcastic comments asking for the toddler to be punished. “I hope that the trouble maker is banned and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Need this out of the game”

As mentioned earlier, all comments were not in a light-hearted manner. Some fans took this seriously and expressed their opinion on Twitter. “Kids playing football on the sideline. What is the fourth official doing? This is senior women’s football.”

“Such disrespect by the other bystanders, I mean it’s funny initially, but then they seem to be just laughing and not care. Why are they even in attendance? Respect the players” wrote another.
