USA’s 4x400m men’s relay team performance at Tokyo Olympics

After losing the gold medal across all track events leading into Saturday, the U.S. men’s team dominated in the 4×400 meter relay’s final heat, making it into the top spot on the podium.

The U.S. team comprised Michael Cherry, Michael Norman, Bryce Deadmon and Rai Benjamin. Early in the relay, they were successful in taking the lead. They performed with an incredible timing of 2:55.70. Perhaps this was the season’s best-ever timing for this team!

While speaking to the news reporter, Benjamin shared his thoughts about his experience in Tokyo. “Track and field ? this sport ? is very unforgiving. It’s just amazing to come out here and win a gold medal, considering what the banter was back home,” Benjamin said. “Especially given our team is young and a lot of people don’t understand that.

He also expressed how not being able to achieve the first position in the 4×100 metre relay motivated them further to perform their best for this event. “There was no pressure to go out there and do anything out of the ordinary ? anything we haven’t done before,” he added. “It was just: go out and execute our own race and bring it home.
