Max Verstappen could have ended up on the podium today as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc lost power in his Ferrari engine, but a late safety car brought on for the electric failure of both Renaults meant that Leclerc barely finished on the podium ahead of the Dutchman.
The Renaults of Ricciardo and Hulkenberg conked off at the same time into Turn 1 on lap 55, which meant the Safety car was brought out to help clear both the yellow cars. With only 2 laps to go, all cars followed the Safety car home, which meant that the tyres were not upto racing temperature.
Max Verstappen found that out the hard way. As the Red Bull made his way around the Sakhir circuit on the cool-down lap, he lost his car at the sharp left-hander and was lucky to not go into anyone, and damage his car.
