India’s test series against Sri Lanka is around the corner and Indian pacer Varun Aaron would be looking to make full use of the opportunity to play for India ‘A’ and prepare for the real battle against the Lankans. India ‘A’ will play a Test series against the visiting Australia ‘A’ team which starts at the MA Chidambaram Stadium from July 22.

The speedster feels that the conditions in Chennai will assist reverse-swing and he will surely look to exploit the conditions to the fullest extent.

“The emphasis will definitely be on reverse-swing since the conditions are apt for it. The wickets are likely to be dry and the roughness should help us swing the ball later in the innings,” said Aaron during an interaction on Saturday.

The Indian pacer feels that it would make sense to work up good pace and give it everything in short spells considering the hot and humid conditions in Chennai.

“That (bowling 4-5 over spells) is the more logical way to operate in this heat. However, if the situation requires me to bowl more, then I am fine with that as well,” he said.

Aaron feels his stint at the MRF Pace Foundation in the last many years will come handy. “Once you have practised in a particular set of conditions, it is bound to help you and I have been coming there (MRF Pace Foundation) for 11 years now,” he said.

Varun Aaron is wary of the fact that for a fast bowler,  having  the skills and pace is necessary but fitness is of utmost importance.

“It is always a primary focus for every fast bowler. If you aren’t fit, then you can’t be a fast bowler,” said Aaron.

Aaron felt that a stint with India A was much needed as he looked to get some match practice before playing International cricket. “I was looking to play a few matches before the Lanka series, and I am happy to have been included in the side,” said Aaron.

Apart from going for reverse-swing, is there anything new that he would want to try in the series? “At this point of time, I am not looking to try anything new and only concentrating on what I have been doing thus far,” he said.
