Louis van Gaal has admitted that goalkeeper David de Gea wants to leave the club. De Gea has been the number one summer target for Real Madrid this summer. The deal, however, has been marred by complicated demands, with United demanding Sergio Ramos in a swap deal.
Ramos has now signed a new contract with the Los Blancos, and De Gea is still playing for United. Although this statement made by Van Gaal will again lead to lot of speculation regarding De Gea’s future.
Speaking to the media after the last pre-season match against Paris Saint Germain, Van Gaal said: “We have a situation that is not favorable for David De Gea, but neither for us and nor for the club [Real Madrid] that maybe he wants to go.”
The 24-year old’s contract still has one year left, and United may want to hold him, but it will be losing him for free.
Real Madrid has already let go off Iker Casillas to make room for De Gea, and United have recently signed Argentina’s goalie Sergio Romero.
Van Gaal also pointed out the fact that De Gea was responsible for PSG’s second goal saying: “I cannot say he [De Gea] did not make a mistake. But everybody can makes mistakes and when a goalkeeper makes a mistake it is mostly a goal and that’s the difference.
