Valkyrae recently made headlines when she announced her return to the red platform YouTube. After taking a streaming break post the expiration of her previous contract with YouTube, Rae came back in full force with a hilarious announcement video on January 31. The internet at large celebrated the return of the ‘Queen of YouTube’ to the platform.
Subsequently, Valkyrae appeared on an episode of OfflineTV Podcast in conversation with Disguised Toast. Revealing the hardships she endured after moving to YouTube all those years ago.

Valkyrae felt guilty after moving to YouTube

Valkyrae started her career on Instagram, where she developed a successful gaming page on the platform. After that, the creator moved to the purple platform Twitch in 2015, streaming for several years and building a respectable follower count. It was much later, in 2020, that the co-owner of 100 Thieves ditched the platform for YouTube.

It was a big decision and Rae faced some significant backlash from her almost 945,000 Twitch followers. Although Rae has maintained it was the right financial move, she recently opened up to Disguised Toast on the OfflineTV Podcast to share her experience.

Talking about her state of mind right after the move, Rae said:

“I was depressed for like three months after I switched because I kept thinking like I made a mistake. Because I felt so guilty for like leaving my community, even though it was financially the correct decision.”

When she left Twitch, Valkyrae, who recently rebranded to ‘JUST VALKY’ on Twitter, was close to a million followers. It was a shocking revelation to that massive audience when Rae made the announcement. Particularly, there was opposition to her streaming platform of choice.

Valkyrae alluded to that, saying “Just like knowing so many people are disappointed in you and they’re let down”

The shift to a new platform also involved some unforeseen changes for Valkyrae. She said the new chat was one thing she had to get used to, citing the inability of her followers to spam emotes on YouTube, unlike the purple platform.

“It was difficult, especially adjusting to how like the chat behavior was” she said. “There’s just double the opinions, and they’re very vocal about their opinions on YouTube”

Refusing to divulge details regarding her YouTube contract, Rae elaborated that a major reason she is sticking with the platform is their willingness to work on it. Be it adding mod support or fixing the live chat during streams.
