Horse racing took place at Sha Tin today for the Hong Kong International Races, setting the stage for a momentous day featuring four Group 1 races on the 10-race card. Andre Fabre boasted a formidable track record in the Hong Kong Vase, having previously trained the 2014 Hong Kong International Vase (2400m) Victor Flintshire. His success extended to multiple runner-up finishes, including Botanik’s second-place position behind Win Marilyn at the 2022 HKIR meeting.

Junko showcased an impressive performance at Sha Tin guided by jockey Maxime Guyon. Starting from the back, Junko surged forward with a sustained run, ultimately securing a one-length victory over Zeffiro, ridden by Australian jockey Damian Lane. Trainer Andre Fabre expressed initial concerns about the race’s pace but praised Junko’s ability to accelerate and finish strong. Guyon, familiar with Hong Kong successes, celebrated his second victory in the Hong Kong International Vase, emphasizing the significance of the event for jockeys. Despite race favorites like Lebensstill failing to perform well, Junko’s strategic run and Guyon’s expertise led to a remarkable win, highlighting the allure of racing in Hong Kong.

Junko continued his winning streak, transitioning from a victory at the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Bayern in Munich on soft ground. His previous triumphs established him as a significant Group 1 winner for Intello and the Wertheimer family. Trained by Andre Fabre, the four-year-old gelding showcased exceptional form in the Grosser Allianz Preis von Bayern, emerging victorious ahead of Assistant and India

Bred by the Wertheimer family, Junko’s success added to their string of victories, including prestigious races such as the Prix Royal-Oak and Prix de la Foret. His lineage, tracing back to Danehill through Impressionnante, underscores the rich racing pedigree associated with the horse.
