International icon Bruce Lee was the jack of all trades. The actor grew to fame with his impeccable martial art skills. However, not many knew that Lee had issues with his vision. The Sensei suffered from myopia, an eye condition preventing distant vision. It might be a common problem affecting 40% of Americans, but it did not affect the Jeet Kune Do founder from training regularly. Nearsightedness or myopia occurs when images are focused at a point in front of the retina instead of the back.

Bruce Lee, who suffered from this vision problem, figured out an alternative that helped him to train uninterruptedly. What is the great Lee secret to continue working on oneself despite weaknesses? Let’s dig a little deeper.

Here?s how Bruce Lee did not let myopia affect his training

Previously, Lee wore large glasses to deal with his nearsightedness. Eventually, he was one of the first few people to try out contact lenses. He wore it daily, which had no negative impact on his training and combating styles. More so, Lee performed Jeet Kune Do, which teaches one to predict the opponent’s movement without moving from one?s own place. Hence, Lee was a master of combating his opponents regardless of his vision problem.

Stressing the conscious awareness aspect of martial art, a report by Asia Journal USA published, “The opponent was not allowed to move until his eyes saw the change in movement and could make judgments. Predictive insight is the focus of Jeet Kune Do training. When people have a low level of movement speed, this can be a significant factor.”

Not just eyes, Lee worked on everything that required him to look good on camera.

Bruce Lee removed his sweat glands to look good on camera

Lee was very passionate about his work. He left no stone unturned in everything he did from fighting to acting. Although Lee was exceptionally good in his stunts and combating scenes, Lee thought his on-screen presence was hindered by his sweaty armpits.

Lee was obsessed with looking good on camera. Hence, he removed his sweat glands for a sweat-free look in his scenes. Although Lee went through the surgery, many suggested it to be the main reason behind his death. Due to the absence of his sweat glands, many believe that Lee experienced heatstroke at the time of death. When the doctors analyzed his body, most reports aligned with the heatstroke symptoms.
