Tony Hawk, the legendary skateboarder, is approaching twenty years of retirement next year. However, that has not kept him out of the public eye, as he remains ingrained into mainstream popular culture.
Most recently, he was a presenter at the Academy Awards 2022, which he attended with his wife Cathy Goodman. Additionally, other sports stars like Serena and Venus Williams, Shawn White, and Kelly Slater were also present at the Oscars.
Before the Oscars, however, Hawk’s wife ran into a slippage problem vis-a-vis her heels. Thus, as ingenious as ever, Hawk had a rather interesting solution to the problem.

Tony Hawk had his wife Cathy Goodman as his date to the Oscars 2022. Hawk was a presenter for the ’60 years of James Bond’ presentation alongside Shaun White and Kelly Slater.
Before the ceremony began, Hawk took to his Instagram stories to share how he fixed his wife’s heels. Hawk shared a small video of Cathy Goodman’s heels, which had strips of grip tape on the bottom.

“The sacrifices we make,” Tony Hawk wrote next to the video. Apparently, he had torn off strips off of his own skateboard’s grip tape and attached them to Cathy’s heels.
Hawk wrote how he was “trying to save (his) wife from slippage at the Oscars,” and well, it seemed like it worked. The grip tape on the board is a gritty layer of sandpaper layer that’s applied to the top of a skateboard deck so that your shoes can grip the board.
“Fall on your face in those bad shoes,” he also wrote at the bottom of the frame. Undoubtedly, the skateboard being his own, it must have been a rather expensive one. Nevertheless, Hawk showed up as a husband and fixed the problem to save his wife from embarrassment.
The shoes were a gift from Gucci
Tamar Levine, the photographer who clicked some rather remarkable shots of the couple, explained the story behind Cathy Goodman’s heels.
The celebrity photographer explained the situation, while also highlighting how Hawk fixed the problem. “When Gucci gives you very cute but slippery shoes to wear,” she wrote.

“But it’s cool cuz you have grip tape in your car,” she wrote, clicking Cathy Goodman posing on her dressing table. Clearly, the ingenuity of the legendary X-treme sportsman came in hand, and Goodman avoided any incident at all in her slippery shoes.
