Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a seasoned athlete on the track and field scene. However, the Jamaican, a five-time world champion in the 100-meter dash, will not be participating in Saturday’s Absa Kip Keino Classic. The reason for the uproar is an unexpected injury that has forced her to leave.

The full story was revealed in an interview with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce after her workout on Thursday. Barnaba Korir, the meeting director for the Absa Kip Keino Classic, stated that Fraser-Pryce, 36, had informed the organizers about her withdrawal on Thursday night.

The five-time world champion had injured her knee earlier on Thursday, in training. In spite of knowing about the injuries, she continued to push herself beyond her limitations, and the situation deteriorated. She revealed her injury in a statement, reported by The East African, saying, “I am deeply disappointed to share that I will not be competing at the Kip Keino Classic. I was truly looking forward to kick-off my season at one of the greatest athletic events in East Africa.”

On Friday morning, the newly named Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, together with her coach Reynaldo Walcott and physiotherapist Keneil Brown, checked out of the athlete’s hotel. The Jamaican athlete reportedly left Nairobi for Milan, Italy, to get the specialist care that she required immediately. Fans, however, who have already purchased tickets to see the star perform at the Absa Kip Keino Classic, would be left immensely dissatisfied.

The Kip Keino Classic Tour remains a top-tier one-day athletics championship and one of the most anticipated track and field events. Athletes from all over the globe have the opportunity to compete on an international stage in front of a global audience. On May 13th, 2023, the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, will host the fourth annual Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour. The gold-level competition will be held, with athletes collecting prize money and points toward global rankings.

More than two hundred athletes from every corner of the globe would be the event’s major draw. World champions are included in this group of well-known athletes. While not every athlete has been confirmed to participate, the list of those who likely will is as follows:
