Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos had a particularly tough time at the Paris Olympics, and her emotional response was hard to watch. After struggling with her performance, she shared on Twitter, “Today was not my day (cries). I feel really sad. I feel like everything I did in the last two or three years did not work out today. I’m very sad (cries). I feel like I’ve worked for nothing the past few years. I’m sad.”
The post was brought to light on X (formerly Twitter), where, according to the post, Dos Santos admitted that her issues started right from the first apparatus, the uneven bars. Mélanie said, “It’s because I’m not strong in my head (mentally). I did not have any confidence today. I really tried to focus. I don’t know why, but today was not my day.” It’s clear she was battling not just physical challenges but mental ones too, making it hard for her to perform at her best as the pressure of representing her country in the home Olympics got to her.

Even though her teammates encouraged her to keep going and enjoy the moment, Mélanie found it difficult to shake off her nerves and sadness. She mentioned hiding her feelings as she later stated, “I really tried to smile and be there for my team, but I was just very nervous and sad.” Despite the outcome, she did her best, and now she knows where she stands when it comes to performing. Her mentor did teach her a lesson or two about confidence; unfortunately, she couldn’t imply them here. Before the 2024 Olympics began, she revealed the transformations she undertook, and here is what she had to say.

With the best mentors training her, Jesus dos Santos stated, “I learned a lot of things. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is not to doubt yourself and to have confidence in yourself.” Training with Simone Biles has been a highlight of this new chapter, as she admitted that being around someone with Biles’s level of success and experience has been incredibly motivating. “It’s really full of news. That’s what makes me really different now. I learned a lot of positive things and regained my confidence,” she told Olympics.com when asked about how she was learning from the legend.

She took part in 5 events for the Olympics, but her results were disappointing, to say the least. But we wish her luck for the future because one day she will be able to say, “We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.”― Rick Warren.
