Swimming in ocean waters during peak shark activity is an obviously dangerous endeavor. However, this ten-year-old girl has carried out an unbelievable feat. She kicked a shark in the face, survived the shark attack, and returned to shore. Back in November 2022, at Hobe Sound Beach, Florida, Jasmine Carney encountered a shark. Though the shark had already bitten her foot, ten-year-old did not give up.

In an interview with NBC affiliate WPTV-TV, Carney says, “I fought a shark and won. Something grabbed me. It looked pretty big and it was gray. It hurt, so I’m like, kick it (and) run away.” She came back to the beach to her grandmother who goes by Nana, and was shocked to see Carney covered in blood.

Nana called the lifeguard, who arranged for a rescue helicopter, that took Carney to the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital. The hospital reports revealed that Carney’s right foot received a severe injury because of the shark’s bite force. The surgeon, Dr. Nir Hus, who was involved in this, also wrote that there was a missing piece in her right foot but that it would heal over time.

The swimming session that she would remember for a lifetime

The 10-year-old who was enjoying her swimming session at the ocean would have never expected his encounter. Most victims of shark attacks have a difficult tale to tell. The recovery time for this injury was two months, and her family is pretty happy to have their child back.

As time passes, Jasmine Carney is having a good time at home with her six-year-old brother and says, “He’s pretty curious, so I might as well stay calm because I know he wouldn’t want me to be scared, because he’s the best little brother in the world.”
