Finally, after months of preparation, the Wallex US Open of Surfing gets underway at Huntington Beach, California. Surfers from all over the globe have converged here to demonstrate their abilities to the WSL and earn a spot in the final round. There have been a number of intense surfing bouts in the initial round of the Challenger Series event in the American waves, and the victor won’t be determined until August 6, 2023. Silvana Lima, a 38-year-old Brazilian surfer, was involved in an intense battle amongst four other surfers during Heat 6 of the Round of 48.

WSL, on their official social media account, appreciated the intensity of Heat 6 of the first round. Seeing the Brazilian surfer pull off such a remarkable accomplishment caused the post to go viral.

There were four women surfers in the mix in Heat 6 of the Round of 48: Silvana Lima, Daniella Rosas, Tessa Thyssen, and Ella McCaffray. Only one of the many excellent surfers could advance to the next stage of the challenger series. Lima was the only surfer in the heat who hadn’t earned a point by the fifth wave. On the sixth wave, though, the Brazilian surfer scored an impressive 6.33 as his competitors battled to reach any digits.

But the Brazilian surfer waited for the seventh wave, knowing that this was the one on which she would really wow everyone in the water and the judges. Silvana Lima embraced the challenge of mother nature on a little wave that appeared difficult to earn any points with, yet the wave was shorter than her resolve. The surfer got a good start on the rail and increased speed while onlookers pondered her next technique. The surfer committed to an aerial move the instant she sighted the apex of the wave, turning a flawless 180 degrees in the air before landing back on the waves without a hitch. Lima made a celebratory gesture just after her flawless landing, demonstrating her aquatic skills in the American water.

The WSL judges, who have been in the public eye this season due to many controversies, were clearly impressed with the Brazilian surfer’s performance, as they gave her a 9.33. Lima scored 15.66 out of a possible 20 points, putting her in the round of 32 of the Wallex US Open of Surfing.
