The Brazilian surfing scene has long been familiar with Willyam Santana. The native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, started surfing professionally at a very young age. Over the last several years, he’s been known as one of the few surfers capable of doing acrobatic tricks on the massive waves he’s been riding. However, with the rise in popularity of electric surfboards, the Brazilian surfer decided to give one a try.

A video posted by Awake Boards on YouTube not too long ago is all the buzz among surfers. Pro surfer Willyam Santana is seen in this clip riding the massive waves at Nazare, Portugal, while riding on an electric surfboard.

Awake, a company that makes electric surfboards, recently hosted a professional big-wave surfer. Willyam Santana also rode one of the world’s largest waves on one of their high-performance electric surfboards. The dangerous waves in Nazare are nothing to be taken lightly. Nazare’s waves average about 50 feet in height but may even go up to 80. The surfer, however, was not making this attempt for the first time. Since becoming a pro surfer at age 18, Santana has been actively engaged in the big wave scene. This time, though, he didn’t utilize his classic board; instead, he rode the waves in Nazare on an Awake RÄVIK S electric surfboard.

Santana wiped out when attempting a move, and the electric surfboard takes a dip in the ocean, as seen in the video. But he went back to his surfboard and gave it another go. The surfer tried out a variety of stunts, but he also fell off the board many times. Despite this, he clearly wasn’t having enough fun, as he repeatedly climbed back on his board and continued surfing. And it was seen that the electric surfboard was not damaged in any way by the ride. The large wave surfing experience proved that Awake equipment can withstand extreme conditions.

Finding good surfing waves is one of the sport’s greatest challenges. Nature is the ultimate arbiter of these waves, and no surfer can know for sure what they will face on any given day. However, the introduction of electric surfboards could completely alter the industry. Surfers of all skill levels, from novices to seasoned veterans, will greatly benefit from the use of these electric-powered surfboards.

To push the surfer into the water, electric surfboards use an electric motor and a battery. An electric surfboard allows a rider to ride the waves of lakes and rivers, even when there are no waves. Most lithium-ion batteries used in electric surfboards can be charged and used multiple times. The end of an electric surfboard often houses the engine. The jet’s thrust propels the surfboard forward, allowing it to glide gently over the water’s surface.
