A feat to remember

Although Ethan Ewing has had a number of podium results this year, the one he achieved in the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach is his favorite. In the finals, Ewing met Ryan Callinan. Ewing’s mother, Helen Lambert, had won the tournament in 1983, and for him, it was a big moment.

Both surfers were unable to rack up any points on the first wave. However, in the seventh wave, Ewing had a 6.83 and Callinan had a 5.73. As the waves petered out, the strain was mounting for both surfers. After that, Callinan got a 5.27. When Ewing rode out the final wave and scored a 7.67, he rang the bell 40 years after his mother did. For the Australian surfer, it was a moment he would never forget.
