‘’Sorry to Hear About This Condolences’’: Surfing World Devastated as 44-Year-Old Hawaiian Legend Dies Shockingly

No one in Hawaii has ever been unfamiliar with Mikala Jones. One who rode tubes in the world’s most dangerous waves and captured the thrill of being inside a huge wave barrel is no longer with us. The story of Jones’ terrible tragedy spread like wildfire in the hours after the weekend’s early dawn. The Hawaiian great passed unexpectedly while surfing near Awera Resort in North Sipora, in the company of his wife and three children. His death sent shockwaves through the surfing community throughout the globe.

CARVE Surfing Magazine paid tribute to the great on their social media pages only a few hours after his passing. Internet users from all around the globe flocked to the post’s comments section to express their sorrow at the death of someone they cherished.

One of a generational talent

The 44-year-old Mikala Jones was a legend in the surfing community. He was a professional surfer from Hawaii who ended up living in Indonesia. While most surfers leave their area upon retiring, Jones ventured far from the Pacific to the Asian waters in search of better conditions in which to hone his tube-riding abilities. While in Indonesia, he kept challenging himself in extreme conditions by riding tubes in deadly surf. Not only did he ride the waves, but he also contributed to the reimagination of how they may be captured by regularly carrying his GoPro while executing an incredible barrel on a huge wave, capturing stunningly clear images of the water and the surfer.

The Hawaiian hero was just out for a casual surf on Sunday, July 9, 2023. However, he was injured while surfing near Awera Resort in North Sipora, and the ensuing wound was around 10 centimeters in length on the inside of his left groin. It was speculated that the fin of the surfboard had caused the injury. The administration of the Awera Resort saw the surfer’s gruesome situation and promptly phoned the Mentawai Hospital for assistance. Jones was carried by boat to Tuapejat Pier, where he was met by paramedics; regrettably, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The news of the death of the famous surfer quickly circulated throughout the web. The surfing community was shocked and saddened by the news of Mikala Jones’ death, which was widely shared across various social media platforms.
