Gary Linden is a well-known figure in the surfing world and needs little introduction. Surfers of all ages have seen the 73-year-old veteran, ride the large, dangerous waves of the ocean. Since Linden’s aging has never stopped him from participating in his favorite sport, he has nothing to be afraid of. Real Surf Tales recently posted a video on YouTube in which Gary Linden can be seen surfing with ease. The whole surfing world has reunited to reflect on the veteran’s epic skill showcase in old age.

Well-known not just for his ability to ride massive waves, but also for his skill in designing surfboards, Linden has accomplished a great deal in his life thus far. His feats, continue to serve as an inspiration to many.

The tale of the surfing veteran

When Linden was 12 years old, he borrowed a surfboard and surfed his first wave. After joining the Windansea Surf Club, Linden molded his first surfboard independently at the tender age of 17. Due in large part to the inspiration he gained from that one shaping session, he has continued to craft surfboards that have become classics in their own right.

Linden has been both a surfer and a surfboard shaper for almost 50 years at this point. Several of his designs have become big wave surfing materials and are in high demand. His extensive experience with heavy water and the input of some of the biggest names in big wave surfing, have given him an insider’s understanding of the subject. Not only did he create the Big Wave Surf Tour in 2009, but he also served as president of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP), currently the World Surf League (WSL). The world’s most hazardous waves—Jaws, Killers, Nazare, and Mavericks—are among his favorites to ride.

A certain part of the community was been revived

Gary Linden is an inspiration for many in the modern surfing community, and the recent release of a video showing him surfing with ease at age 73 has reignited the passion for the sport in many individuals around his age.

One viewer talked about how Linden is a living surf legend who is still into the sport, saying, “Gary has schooled generations of surfers in big surf.  Happy to see he’s still at it.  Salt water heals all wounds and acts as a fountain of youth.”

An oldie surfer has also commented, saying, “Go pops! I’m 53 and still surfing at a fairly high level… hopefully I’ll still be in the water in my 70’s.”

A cheeky comment was left by this fan that reads, “Coolness does not care about age. Go Big, Gary!”

Another old surfer looks at Linden as an inspiration as they say, “Thank you  Gary!!  I’m 65 and remember surfing the pier, harbor,  buccaneer,  Cassidy st. Even surfing some of lambrisi’s old boards. Living in baja.  MY Spot is salsi.  Man!! You give me inspiration!  Thank you  brother!!”
