Filipe Toledo is the current holder of the yellow jersey. After winning the Corona Open J-Bay and advancing to the Rip Curl Finals in 2023, the Brazilian surfer has jumped ahead of American prodigy Griffin Colapinto by a significant margin. The Brazilian superstar’s season has been a roller coaster, but his most recent match with Ethan Ewing was a must-see event. The Brazilian and the Australian surfed the South African waves for 45 minutes at Supertubes. Both surfers showed their skills on the opening wave, with Toledo posting an 8.83 and Ewing a 5.67. It was a tremendous disparity, and in the championship game, every point counts.

No one scored until the fifth wave of the event, indicating that the waves were too difficult to score on. During that surge, Toledo pulled off an unexpected feat. The waves were terrifying, but the Brazilian surfer didn’t even need them to pull off a series of spectacular aerials that earned him a 9.93 and left the judges completely speechless. The Australian surfer was under a lot of pressure now because he could only do a 5.67. Toledo finished with a total of 18.76, whereas Ewing only managed 12.60, giving the Brazilian surfer a commanding victory.
