The Colapinto brothers have recently been a topic of conversation in the surfing community. Crosby Colapinto has risen 10 spots in the WSL’s Men’s Challenger Series, while his brother, Griffin, has qualified for the Rip Curl Finals and the 2024 Olympics. Both brothers have been dominant surfers this season, but Crosby will always remember the ultimate loss he suffered at the hands of Hawaiian surfer Eli Hanneman in the Wallex US Open of Surfing. The surfer benefited from the points, too, moving up to third place in the Challenger Series, an accomplishment with which Griffin was understandably thrilled.
Griffin Colapinto wrote a lengthy post on his social media accounts after seeing his younger brother lose the final of the Wallex US Open of Surfing. His younger brother, Crosby, was the intended recipient of this message, which included a heartfelt confession from him.

The Colapinto brothers are just three years apart in age, yet their relationship is stronger than anything else. Both surfers experienced their share of highs and lows this season, but no matter what, they always had each other’s backs. Griffin congratulated all the American surfers that competed in this event by writing, “Another US Open going down in the history books” in an Instagram post. He thanked his brother Crosby and American surfer Jett Schilling for allowing him to train them during the competition and added a cryptic comment reading, “Keep hammering hammers!”
Griffin continued by writing, “My brother @crosbycola got 2nd place and is now ranked 3rd on the challengers.” That’s “1 step closer” to Crosby joining Griffin on the 2024 WSL Championship Tour, when they’ll both be competing for the title of World Surf League champion. Griffin, despite his undying loyalty to his own, praised Eli Hanneman’s victory in the Wallex US Open of Surfing, telling him, “You’re a warrior Handy Man.”

A surfing battle worth rewatching
The American audience at Huntington Beach had been watching the fierce surfing match for quite some time. Eli Hanneman and Crosby Colapinto battled it out in the finals of the Wallex US Open of Surfing, which took place in challenging surf. The challenging circumstance was that the surfers were catching significantly smaller waves than predicted, yet this did not stop them from stunning the local audience.
Eli Hanneman, undeterred by the modest waves, launched himself into a 360-degree aerial on his first wave, earning a perfect 9 for his first maneuver. However, Colapinto had difficulty and could only score a 3.93 in his first round of play. Colapinto’s second-wave score of 5.67 wasn’t good enough to beat out the Hawaiian surfer. Hanneman won the American surfing contest with an 8.10 on the seventh wave, moving him up 23 places in the WSL Challenger Series rankings.
