The recent Surf Ranch Pro proved to the surfing world that entire rankings may shift dramatically in a single day. All of the surfers put up incredible performances, but there were some questions about the judging that the WSL CEO eventually answered. But Griffin Colapinto, the current No. 1 on the 2023 Men’s Championship Tour, was the talk of the town. As a result of his victory, Colapinto jumped three spots in the rankings and is now, to everyone’s astonishment, ranked number one in surfing. But the surfer isn’t ready to kick back and relax just yet; he’s already let his admirers in on his future intentions.

The best surfer in the world has released a video for his army of fans, and it has gotten a lot of attention. When he returns to defend his Surf Ranch Pro title the following year, he lays out his long-term strategy.

This year, the surfer was unbeatable in the Surf Ranch Pro. The American surfer flipped what seemed to be another Brazilian dominance on its head. Griffin’s 17.77 shocked the competition in the finals when he faced Italo Ferreira of Brazil and his 17.13. The contest was a feast for the American fans, as the surfer snatched the championship from the Brazilian surfer with a 0.64-point margin. This contest was an exhibition of the surfer’s raw talent and a preview of what to expect in this year’s championship contests. Despite his impressive victory, the surfer still had one last trick up his sleeve.

“Looking forward to stomping this one in competition,” Colapinto says in the video’s description. The surfer in the video is seen surfing a wave that is about the same height as him. Colapinto, however, uses the crest of the wave to launch himself into the air for a 360-degree backflip, from which he emerges unscathed and onto his surfboard. But that wasn’t the end of it; he jumped on another wave. This time, though, he does a standard backflip, and, according to the video’s caption, the surfer hopes to impress the judges with his skills next year and prevent a close victory like this one.

Griffin Colapinto’s journey this WSL season

Griffin Colapinto’s 2023 season started slowly. His season began at the Billabong Pro Pipeline, where he finished in 17th place after losing to Leonardo Fioravanti. It was the worst possible wave to jump into for a surfer. But it didn’t dampen the American surfer’s determination. At the Hurley Pro Sunset Beach, Colapinto made a strong comeback but still finished second, losing to Filipe Toledo of Brazil.

After losing to Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina in the Margaret River Pro, Colapinto finished in second place. However, the American surfer didn’t sit back and accept a poor score in the Surf Ranch Pro. He made it to the finals after beating off many other notable surfers before finally facing off against Brazilian surfer Italo Ferreira. This time, though, Colapinto prevailed over his competitor by a slim 0.64-point margin to win the heat and take over as the top-ranked surfer on the 2023 Men’s Championship Tour.
