Close defeat at Corona Open J-Bay
Griffin Colapinto went to South Africa with high hopes after getting destroyed at the Vivo Rio Pro. The surfer beat Kelly Slater in the first round of the Corona Open J-Bay and moved on to the next round. In the round of 16, he was up against Ian Gentil, a Hawaiian surfer, and the young American was ready to surf.
Ian Gentil got off to a good start, scoring on his first two waves for a total of 15.43 (7.83 + 7.60) points. Colapinto, on the other hand, had trouble and only scored on the second and fourth waves, for a total of 14.30 (7.23 + 7.07). This took the American star out of the competition, but he didn’t lose all hope because he is currently third in the ranks and made it to the Championship Tour Finals.
