The 2023 WSL season was quite productive. The surfing community has seen everything, from epic clashes on the waves to off-the-field disputes that have driven a wedge between members. The drama may be high, but the lessons that may be gleaned from it are timeless. Gabriel Medina, a surfer from Brazil, has had a similar 2023 WSL season. He has seen success and failure, from trophy-raising to early elimination. The SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro is the last tournament on the Men’s Championship Tour, and the three-time world champion is presently ranked sixth. The event would take place at the venue for the 2024 Olympics, providing the Brazilian surfing superstar with a free pass to the Rip Curl Finals.

The surfer would need to finish in the top five on the Men’s Championship Tour before the end of the Tahitian WSL event in order to get into the Rip Curl Finals. There are just a few days left until the big event, and Gabriel Medina has already sent out a mysterious message to his devoted fans.

At the Corona Open at J-Bay, Gabriel Medina was an unstoppable force. The Brazilian surfer advanced quickly to the semi-finals, where he faced off against Australian surfer Ethan Ewing. The competition between Medina and Ewing was intense, but ultimately, the Australian surfer triumphed with a 1.46-point advantage over his Brazilian rival. Despite the loss, Medina climbed from seventh to sixth on the Men’s Championship Tour, which was excellent news for the Brazilian surfer. The next stop on the WSL schedule is in Tahiti, where expectations for the Brazilian surfer to advance to the Rip Curl Finals are as high as the swells in the South Pacific.

The Instagram post contains a number of media files. It seems like the surfer took a break from his training to go on vacation. “So I sing, so we sing… All that remains is dreaming,” Medina said in the post’s description, leaving his fans to decipher his meaning. The surfer strikes the perfect pose for the first photo in this Instagram post. The following clip shows the surfer doing a backflip into the sea while on vacation before the Tahiti competition.

At the conclusion of the Instagram post was a picture of Medina with his companions. The surfer has a tough struggle ahead, as seen by the IG post, but Medina is taking advantage of a fantastic holiday to recharge his batteries before the Tahiti Pro.

The 2023 surfing season for the Brazilian surfer

Gabriel Medina, winner of three World Surf League titles, has always given every event his all. The Brazilian surfer had a rough season up to the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach of the 2023 campaign, following which he won the Margaret River Pro. Once again, the surfer’s run was difficult, and it included an early elimination from his home tournament, the Vivo Rio Pro.

But the surfer came to South Africa with big expectations, and he delivered. Quickly advancing to the semi-finals, he was ultimately eliminated by Ethan Ewing at the Corona Open J-Bay. There is still one event until the Rip Curl Finals, and the Brazilian surfer has to earn more points to qualify for it. However, the 6,085 points he earned in that WSL contest were crucial in propelling him to #6.
