The surfer now has the yellow jersey and is well ahead of any challenger in the points standings after winning three events in the 2023 WSL season. Defying all odds in surfing
While competing in the Vivo Rio Pro, Filipe Toledo was slightly hurt in a surf duel. Despite having to withdraw from his home event early due to a cartilage ailment, the surfer didn’t skip the WSL competition in South Africa. The surfer sought immediate medical care days before the Corona Open J-Bay and was actively training while recovering.
The surfer entered the WSL competition with tape on his knees, yet he still managed to do well. Toledo easily advanced through the bracket rounds and ultimately squared up against Australian surfer Ethan Ewing in the final. Despite his injuries, Toledo was already a dominating force in the water, and he capped off his victory at the Corona Open J-Bay by posting a 9.93 in the last wave. As he trains for his upcoming championship, the Brazilian surfer moves up in the standings.
