Surfing icon Kelly Slater needs no introduction when it comes to the sport. The 11-time World Surf League (WSL) champion has prominent records to his name. Despite all his expertise in surfing, Slater also has a unique quality that every single person has observed while interacting with him. Kelly Slater is also known for giving out pertinent, motivational advice to those who seek them.
Australian professional golfer Adam Scott shared his experience talking to the surfer, and long-time friend Kelly Slater. It looks like, apart from surfing, Slater also takes an interest in the sport of golf.

Adam Scott doesn’t like to have deep conversations. But when he is around somebody like Slater, those conversations are bound to happen. As reported by Golf Digest, Scott says, “I don’t go up there just to have deep and meaningful [conversations] and try and tap into him, but when you’re around a guy like that you always take something out of the encounter. Even yesterday, being up there on the North Shore, just going out for a swim in the ocean with him was … it sounds too spiritual, but it was a bit of an enlightening experience. Being able to let go a little bit. That’s a feeling I get from Kelly a lot, like [he says], ‘Adam, just let go a little bit.’”

Slater has a unique approach to everything, which Scott appreciates. He also mentions how a conversation with Slater makes him feel relaxed and good. He admires Slater’s strong mindset toward the world, which make his problems seem smaller.
It is not like the surfer hasn’t had any issues during his decorative surfing career. However, what Slater is known for is getting out of problems by correcting them, and that is what Scott likes a lot about him. Slater’s words have had an impact on Scott’s life. Whenever the surfer gives the golfer a motivational talk, it has always led his life down a better path. While both sportsmen have been prominent figures in their respective sports, it is a rare occurrence that the friendship between the golfer–surfer duo is one that stands out, and for all the good reasons.
