Home/Olympics

The Penguins are struggling this season in the NHL. The team lost 2-7 yesterday in front of their home fans, against the Edmonton Oilers leaving Penguins’ supporters frustrated with the team’s lackluster play. The offense that has made Pittsburgh famous, has gotten off to a rough start this year, and the club as a whole has struggled to win.

Ron Hextall, GM of the Penguins, has played a significant role in the National Hockey League. Despite the general manager’s years of expertise, he has had a very difficult time this season guiding his club into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As a result, the fans are not satisfied. After the Oilers game, the general manager was asked about the fans’ chants of ‘fire Hextall’ and he gave his response, which was posted on Glovey McGlovin’s YouTube channel.

Fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins have been more frustrated with the team’s management during the current four-game losing skid, which has dropped their team to the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference. Ron Hextall, despite being met with vitriol from the crowd, made a courageous remark.

In the post-game interview, Ron Hextall says to the reporter, “It doesn’t impact me at all. I understand the fans’ frustration. We have high expectations as well and we haven’t met them, so we totally get it.” He takes accountability for his role, saying, “You’re the GM and know what you’re signing off. We work in the public eye. Criticism is part of the business, and you just get to have to handle it. You have to deal with it. And I do believe we can make the playoffs, yes.”

Ron Hextall didn’t try to hide the animosity from the fans’ eyes. He’s aware of what happens when a team under one manager struggles. Hextall understands the criticism, and takes it to heart, because he wants his club to do well and make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, at the very least. Also, he assures the Penguins’ supporters that the team will stage a remarkable turnaround this season and reach the playoffs.

Does the NHL team have a chance for a comeback?

As of right now, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the Eastern Conference’s 11th team. They need to finish in the top eight, in the regular season, if they want to enter the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The club is now going through a hard stretch as they have lost four straight games. The club’s administration is making every effort to keep the players inspired, so that they can continue winning games for the sake of the club’s and its supporters’ reputations.

After 57 games this season, the Penguins have a 27-30 record and 63 points to show for it. There are still a lot of games for the Penguins to win, in order to reach the playoffs. The team’s challengers have 64 points through 8th place, so the club isn’t too far behind.
