The NHL season is off to a great start for both the New Jersey Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs are in third place in the Eastern Conference, while the Devils hold the second spot. The instant these two elite clubs clashed, it was clear that they were going to provide the fans with a fantastic game. Leafs right winger Mitch Marner didn’t back down from this heat, and his incredible skating helped the team score a goal and trick the Devils’ goalkeeper.

A video of this astounding skating display has been posted to the NHL’s official YouTube channel. Mitch Marner, the right winger for the Leafs, glides at Devils goalkeeper Vitek Vanecek and proceeds to thoroughly baffle him with a series of exquisite stickwork and puck tricks.

At Newark’s Prudential Center, the New Jersey Devils played the Toronto Maple Leafs. Despite the Devils’ successful season, they couldn’t afford to lose a home game. The temperature of the game quickly rose once the referee dropped the puck. While neither team scored in the first period, the action really got going in the second when Leafs forward Calle Jarnkrok scored the game’s first goal against the home club. Three minutes before the conclusion of the second period, Devils center Erik Haula scored the tying goal. Right winger Mitch Marner entered the game for the Leafs to open the third period, and he immediately displayed his skating prowess despite the tense nature of the game.

Five minutes into the third, the right winger saw his team’s best chance to score all game. Timo Meier, a left winger for the Devils, had the puck stolen from him by Mitch Marner, who barged into him. He attempted to shoot to the goaltender’s left, but then quickly flipped the puck to his right, utterly befuddling the Devils’ keeper with his quickness and skill. The fans and analysts alike went absolutely bonkers after this unbelievable goal.

How did the NHL game progress after that?

At a pivotal juncture, Leafs forward Mitch Marner handed them a decisive 1-2 lead. Their advantage did not last long, though, as Devils striker Ondrej Palat scored an equalizer in the 47th minute. The Devils were trailing the Leafs 3-2 when Erik Haula scored again for his club less than two minutes later.

It was the closing five minutes of a tense NHL game, but the Leafs weren’t ready to give up. Forward Michael Bunting slammed the equalizer in the 56th minute, and two minutes later, his teammate Auston Matthews scored the game-winning goal. The Leafs triumphed, 3-4.
