The Buffalo Sabres have added some young reporters to their squad in the hopes of winning over the hearts of their adoring fan base. As the NHL saw a significant drop in viewership in recent seasons, the club made this choice on Youth Takeover Day with the overarching goal of expanding the game. A teenage youngster by the name of Madison Zimmer was just revealed as the Sabres’ new junior reporter. Unfortunately for the team, the young journalist wasn’t accepted by a Sabres reporter by the name of Mike Harrington.

Mike Straw’s claimed video of the incident soon gained more than a million views on Twitter. When Sabres reporter Mike Harrington was being annoying to the young journalist, Straw confronted him.

How did this incident take place?

Previously, Buffalo Sabres fans made a big deal out of junior reporter Madison Zimmer’s presence. The Buffalo Sabres’ official Twitter feed even released a welcoming video for Zimmer. The post quickly grabbed traction online, with many viewers and Sabres supporters expressing their gratitude to the organization for its brilliant move in recruiting young journalists. But as shown in the video, this didn’t last long, as reporter Mike Harrington recently chose to crush the girl’s spirit during an interview.

Rather than waiting, reporter Mike Straw immediately confronted Mike Harrington about his behavior. In his Twitter post, he says, “We’ve all seen what @ByMHarrington has said and heard the stories, but this is something that deserves to be brought up. Harrington’s history of acting better than isn’t new as you can see in this clip of clearly intimidating a Sabres Jr. Reporter. A KID.” Harrington’s behavior towards the young girl was inexcusable, given that he is a mature person. This must have shattered the spirit of the child, and it was heart breaking to see.

NHL fans were angry

The comments section of the post shows that the NHL community was right to be angry. They also criticized the reporter’s ridiculous actions. Here are some to prove it.

This user talks about how this could leave a mark in the child’s memory forever, saying, “That’s an extremely negative experience for someone that age. I know as a young professional I had my own nerves about asserting myself in a scrum like that for the first couple of times, so I can only imagine how the child felt there.”

Among all the angry fans, this fan said, “He doesn’t even work for the team, what business does he have telling her she can’t be part of that huddle?”

Immediately this fan mentioned the Buffalo Sabres, saying, “@BuffaloSabres You’ve gotta do something for this kid here. @SabresPR This situation is just in so much poor taste. You want to build future media and fans – not alienate them.”

This fan is also pissed about this incident as they say, “Man… As a dad, and if that was my daughter, I would be furious. Absolutely no need for something like that. As adults we support our youth, let them dream, and gain life long memories. This is just pathetic.”
