On January 30th, Bo Horvat’s trade to the Islanders was finalized. Both, the players of the New York Islanders and the Vancouver Canucks, and even Horvat himself had no idea the deal was happening until it happened. All of this occurred so suddenly, that it left the community with many questions for the teams and Horvat as well. Although the recent contract agreement was a major step in his NHL career, the former Canucks captain is still learning his way around the Islanders.

Lou Lamoriello dislikes it when people ask for information about his deals. But it seems he has no problem telling people what he thinks about them. In the interview, as seen in the Youtube video, Lamoriello says, “All I can tell is it’s too long and it’s too much money.” While the media laughed at this revelation, he added, “I mean, you want the truth?”, with a chuckle.

The Islanders traded for the former Canucks captain because they thought he could lead them to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the GM’s public declaration, everyone in the NHL is curious about the state of this deal and even the extension.

Why is the NHL world confused?

Both, Bo Horvat and his followers, were taken aback by the unexpected trade. The Islanders’ decision to give Horvat an $8.5 million, eight-year extension, complicates matters for fans. And now, after the Islanders’ general manager made a frank comment regarding the trade, things are even more perplexing.
