The NHL universe is now having a peaceful night off from the ice. Despite the lack of recent rink-related information, the community has been kept alive by the huge trades, contract extensions, and retirements of renowned players. Following a disappointing NHL campaign for both clubs, the San Jose Sharks and the Pittsburgh Penguins surprised the ice hockey world by trading for star defender Erik Karlsson. Fans of the Sharks are understandably upset by this decision, while those of the Penguins are delighted.
The unexpected nature of this massive deal between the two clubs sent the fan base into a frenzy. Fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins went wild in the comments when the agreement was revealed on the team’s social media accounts.

The departure of Erik Karlsson from San Jose to Pittsburgh
When it comes to the NHL, Erik Karlsson’s name inspires equal parts terror and admiration. The 33-year-old defenseman was selected 15th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the 2008 NHL draft. The Swedish rookie had a fantastic start to his first NHL season as a true team member with 21 assists for the Senators in the 2009–10 season. During the 2018–19 NHL season, the San Jose Sharks made a deal with the Ottawa Senators to acquire the Swedish NHL standout. To prevent himself from becoming a free agent, Karlsson signed an eight-year deal with the Sharks the following season.

The Swedish NHL player joined the San Jose Sharks as an offensive-minded defenseman. His team play helped him earn more assists than the average defender, making him an aggressive player. The 33-year-old scored 25 goals and 76 assists for 101 points in 82 games with the Sharks in the 2022–23 season, making him just the sixth defender in NHL history to get 100 points in a single campaign. Because of this, he became a desirable trade commodity for other clubs as the Sharks had a dismal year. On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Erik Karlsson from the San Jose Sharks, which was basically an exchange for a large fish from the Sharks’ gut.
