In the last three minutes of the first period, Chicago player Joey Anderson fell on top of Steven Stamkos as the two were struggling for the puck against the wall. As Stamkos went down, Lightning center Brayden Point and Blackhawks defenseman Caleb Jones rushed in and tried to poke the puck out from between Stamkos’s knees with their sticks. Stamkos sat still on the ice, and as the other players took the puck, he attempted to rise up on his own, but his left knee immediately buckled.

The way the Lightning captain was holding his left knee and flexing it, it was clear that he was in discomfort. Then he walked into the tunnel, where he received medical attention before entering the locker room. It was later in the game that Stamkos was last observed missing in action. The NHL superstar, at 33 years old, has been with the Lightning since the 2008–09 season, and he has been outstanding this year. He has 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points in 66 games. He’s not only talented on the field, but he’s also a strong leader for his squad, which might pose a serious challenge for them in the postseason. Not long ago, Stamkos scored his 500th goal, and even his rival fans came together to celebrate the amazing feat.
