The news was shared via the Washington Capitals’ verified Twitter account, which received a response from the team that they were going against tonight – the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Twitter post which was shared by the Capitals, reads, “Washington Capitals senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today that captain Alex Ovechkin will be away from the team to attend to a family matter and the health of a loved one.

 

Without their captain, the Washington Capitals might struggle emotionally to beat the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. The Hurricanes’ official Twitter account responded to the Capitals’ message, addressing the matter as well. They said, “Sending positive thoughts on behalf of the organization. There is nothing more important than those we love. We are wishing the best for Alex and his family.”
