Home/Olympics

Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones have been together for around three decades. Gretzky got married to the Hollywood actress in 1988, which made the whole sports community go crazy. Jones supported Gretzky during his prime and continued to do so after retirement. At the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the couple was spotted with their kids. It was then that Jones explained how Gretzky came around to reciprocate, so she could act in a James Franco film. The movie was the cinematic adaptation of William Faulkner’s ‘The Sound and the Fury’.

Jones was excited to walk alongside the Great One on the red carpet during the movie’s announcement.
She expressed her gratitude for having such a supportive family that was always ready to cheer her up. “Wayne believes in me as a person and a mother and a wife and a human being, He’s very supportive in every way. He saw me support him for 25 years … so he’s like: ‘Let’s do this. … Let the world see you,”’ Jones said.

When Gretzky whisked Jones off her feet

Janet Jones was previously engaged to Vitas Gerulaitis, but the relationship ended in 1987. She had already met Gretzky in 1984 on the stage of Dance Fever. However, they both met again in 1987 during an NBA game, soon after which they started dating each other. However, nothing could have prepared Jones for Gretzky’s wedding proposal.

Wayne Gretzky called Jones and proposed to her on the phone, leaving her completely flabbergasted. On July 16, 1988, they had a lavish wedding at St. Joseph’s Basilica, which was also broadcast all over Canada. Evidently, everybody wanted to watch the greatest hockey player of all time being taken away by one of the most charming actresses in Hollywood.
