The Philadelphia Flyers are having a terrible NHL season thus far, ranking 14th in the Eastern Conference. The game was being played at Amalie Arena, Tampa, the Lightning’s home ground, and the players were well aware of the fury of the fans, should they suffer yet another defeat. The Flyers’ hopes were raised when the Tampa Bay Lightning went on a losing streak, but those expectations were quickly dashed. When Flyers defender Tony DeAngelo tapped Lightning forward Corey Perry on the crotch during a break in play, it sparked a full-blown scrum. Both the players’, and the team’s reputations took a major hit as a result of this incident, and after the game, their coach just had a few things to say to them.

In the post-game interview, John Tortorella talks about the Flyers’ performance, saying, “I thought our five-on-five play for a lot of the game was good. Um can’t take six penalties, and I can’t take three in the first period. Uh, most of them in the offensive zone, but a lot of our checking five on five in a number of minutes, the game was good, we had some good chances, we just can’t freaking score.” He also talked about DeAngelo’s misconduct, saying, “I haven’t seen it, but I think he may have crossed the line.”
