Home/Olympics

The Edmonton Oilers, now in fourth place in the Western Conference of the NHL, suffered a painful loss to the Eastern Conference’s lowest-performing club, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fans in Edmonton, home of ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, are understandably frustrated after their team suffered a lopsided loss to a club that wasn’t even vying for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Connor McDavid, captain of the Oilers, also spoke to the media after the game.

A clip from the post-game interview with Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid discussing the team’s loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets was shared on the club’s official Twitter page. Even though McDavid scored two goals in the second period to give his team hope, they were unable to mount a comeback, and McDavid seemed quite heartbroken after the game.

When compared to the rest of the league, Connor McDavid, captain of the Edmonton Oilers, stands out as the team’s top player. McDavid hasn’t played a game in which he hasn’t met or exceeded the standards set by his adoring supporters. Yet, the captain seemed fairly disheartened following the Blue Jackets’ defeat, maybe because he saw his club, which is in the playoff qualifying pool, struggle against the least-performing team in the league.

In the interview with the Enterprise, McDavid says, “Not very well obviously. We did a good job getting ourself back in it, but it was an embarrassing start and then an embarrassing finish. You know, it’s not quite good enough.” The Oilers’ captain was quite disheartened by the team’s loss. Even though the Blue Jackets are struggling mightily this NHL season, he did praise their performance. In addition to his two goals, he noted that the Oilers attempted a comeback in the second period. McDavid stated that the final or third period of the game was extremely difficult for him and his teammates, as the Blue Jackets crushed their hopes of a comeback by scoring two additional goals and winning the game 6-5.

Oilers fans united in the comment section after the NHL star’s statement

Shortly after the tweet was posted, Edmonton Oilers supporters flooded the comments section. Although the fans acknowledge that Connor McDavid is putting forth his best effort this season, they do have some criticism for the rest of the club’s players and staff. Here are some comments to prove it.

Among all of the Oilers supporters in the comment section, this fan also acknowledges McDavid’s performance and also has a word for the management, saying, “Connor deserves better. honestly wouldn’t blame him for requesting a trade if Holland doesn’t make changes before the deadline.”

Here is another similar suggestion by a fan for the general manager of the club, Ken Holland, that reads, “He has to be the goal getter, the hitter, the intensity leader, the points leader, the back checker, answer to the press! anything else you want him to do? Want him to make a save, Campbell? Clear the front, Nurse? Make a Trade, Holland?”

This fan gives a straightforward solution, saying, “Help this man or fire Holland.”

The situation for the Oilers can’t get worse than this, as a fan wants McDavid to be traded, saying, “Let him go to another team. The organization is screwed…”
