Cale Makar is a star defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche. The Stanley Cup playoffs are drawing near, and fans’ concerns are understandable. The Avalanche cannot afford to bench their promising young player due to a minor ailment sustained in an all-star game.

“Seeing Makar do this during the All-Star game gave me PTSD of when Miro Heiskanen almost wiped out in a very similar way in a previous year; both were very scary situations & could’ve been way worse than it was,” one fan said of the clip.

Among plenty other similar comments raising concern for the usage of helmets in this competition, this comment also reads, “They should wear a helmet for this comp.” A fan thinks that Makar can handle these kinds of near-misses, as they say, “That wasn’t so bad, he definitely knows how to fall, so that’s nothing.”

Here are some more comments left by fans regarding this near-miss.

“Players should wear helmets for the fastest skater. One of the best skaters caught an edge and almost went in head first in. Even pro’s can have accidents. I don’t even tune into all star games any more lol. Thanks JH!”
