Kanoa Igarashi made a name for himself at the Outerknown Tahiti Pro that took place in August 2022 at Teahupo’o. The Japanese athlete had been taking part in surfing competitions since 2016, but his breakthrough performance came last year. The ace surfer finished in the fifth position with a total of 4,745 points. He reached the quarterfinals in the Heat 4 of the tournament and lost against Brazilian surfing legend Miguel Pupo. The announcer was amazed by his surfing prowess saying, “Igarashi stands tall through the exit”. The surfer had no time to lose as one wave came after the other. He amused everyone with his cryptic comment on the video that said, “looks like hb”. To the sensational surfer from Huntington Beach, the video looked like it was shot there, and not Teahupo’o. Igarashi has been preparing for the WSL for months at Huntington Beach in order to fulfill his lifelong dream.
