Surfers are freedom-loving adventure seekers by nature. Any time-bound activity is a chore for them, even if it is a star-studded affair in the presence of one of the Hemsworth brothers. Luke Hemsworth starred in the HBO hit show Westworld for four glorious seasons. He was curious about one of his co-actors who bolted from the set any chance he got. When he confronted the man, the Australian actor found an unconventional kindred spirit.

Jeffrey Wright has shared the screen with Luke Hemsworth in the popular Westworld saga. However, their forays beyond the camera are just as exciting. The duo nurtured their knack for surfing during their break from shooting. Now, that knack has turned into an obsession for Wright, and he continues to excel in the craft. How exactly did his love for maneuvering the erratic currents begin?

The actor would conspicuously disappear from the Westworld set for hours on end during production breaks. Recently, in an exclusive with GQ Magazine, Jeffrey Wright explained that he would drive an hour to reach the beach. There, he would try to achieve the flips and perform mindblowing tricks in the water. Wright inspired commendations for his passion, saying, “Even if I could get just 45 minutes in the water…I would get down here every day that I could”. Moreover, the actor made a splendid change in his life in order to pursue his newfound ardor. By his own admission, Jeffrey Wright moved into a rented-out seaside shack in Malibu to catch favorable waves whenever he had the chance.

Even now, he never relinquishes an opportunity to paddle out to the sea anytime the climate report suggests benign surfing conditions. Wright first discovered his love for surfing during a vacation to Hawaii with his daughter. The father-daughter duo took surfing lessons, and the former found the experience exhilarating. Luke Hemsworth was a constant companion during his wave-riding sojourn and relayed the trajectory in a hilarious yet heartfelt manner.

Luke Hemsworth chronicles Jeffrey Wright’s wave-riding journey

The Hemsworth brothers were born and bred as surfers, and in those initial days, Jeffrey Wright needed Luke’s help to rectify his stance. A natural prankster, the Land Of Bad actor could not relay his recollections without some banter. He said Jeffrey Wright’s surfing was “kind of like watching a baby giraffe walk. It’s cute!”. However, he was really appreciative of his co-actor’s never-ending determination to improve, even at the age of 58.

The post-script at the end is emblematic of the deep bond they share, which grows stronger on account of their mutual love for surfing.
